St. Helena Wineries: St. Helena Wineries Open to The Public Without Appointment
Calistoga Golden Haven Hot Springs is in the heart of the Napa Valley Wine Country. The wineries listed below are in and around the town of St. Helena, a pleasant 15-minute drive south from Calistoga. Be sure to give yourself extra time for traveling from Saint Helena to Calistoga on weekends, as the traffic approaching Saint Helena on Highway 29 tends to be quite congested.
As part of your day of tasting in St. Helena, you may also want to take some time for some shopping on its delightful main street. Though many shops appeal to a high-end clientele, you will find shopping options for almost any budget.
The other great thing about a stroll in St. Helena is that there are several excellent restaurants right on the main street, and several others that are tucked away on the side streets. We can recommend several right on the main street, including “Cook” and “Market”. Both restaurants are reasonably priced and offer great food. One nice thing about the restaurant Market is that it offers complimentary corkage at all times. If you just bought a bottle of wine during your day of wine tasting, this might be the perfect opportunity to try it with some food.
If you want to bypass St. Helena completely, and are coming from the south, we suggest that you turn right on Zinfandel Lane, about 5 miles south of St. Helena, and continue about a mile to Silverado Trail. You will then make a left on Silverado, and continue the entire way to Calistoga, with only one stop sign between Zinfandel and St. Helena. Many locals believe that this is the most scenic portion of the Silverado Trail. This drive, however, is not particularly rich with wineries, but as you approach Calistoga you will notice Cuvaison Winery on your right. If you turn Left on Dunaweal, right past Cuvaison, you can also stop and visit Clos Pegase & Sterling wineries, both of which offer comprehensive tours and our housed in architecturally significant buildings.
Most of the wineries in the following list offer tours, some of which are quite extensive and educational. Virtually all offer tastings of current releases. Prices for the tastings vary, but are generally in the $5.00 to $20.00 range.
