Sbragia
Famly Vineyards opened its tasting room Nov 15, 2006 having just
completed their first crush on those premises. Although their
winery presence is new to Dry Creek Valley the family is not knew
neither to winemaking nor to the Valley. Ed Sbragia has been
the Winemaster at Beringer Vineyards for over thirty years and
is one of the most acclaimed winemakers working today. His
father had been born in the Dry Creek Valley but returned to Italy
with his parents as an infant. He then returned at the age
of eighteen to join many other Italian immigrants working with
Italian Swiss Colony winery in Asti.
Shortly after World War II Ed's father bought land to farm prunes and then replanted to grapes in the early seventies. Ed was well grounded in working in the vineyards when he left home to attend UC Davis. He later attended Fresno State to receive his master's degree. In 2002 Ed began making wine under the Sbragia Family Vineyards label. His son, Adam returned from UCLA and began working in the wine industry and began to plan for a winery to continue the promise Ed had made to his own father to continue the tradition of grape growing in the Dry Creek Valley.
In 2006 the family
was able to buy the beautiful Lake Sonoma Winery property. Many
guests to Sbragia Family Vineyards remember visiting the winery
under previous ownership and report being thrilled that the winery
has reopened because the site is truly an idyllic one. The
winery is perched on a hillside, visitors drive up a winding driveway
past lush Zinfandel vineyards and colorful gardens to the winery
itself with a large terrace that invites one to sit and relax and
enjoy the views. The
wines have received many accolades and are considered some of the
Valleys best.
The tasting room staff strives to provide a warm and welcoming experience for each guest to enjoy a variety of wines including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Zinfandel and an assortment of Cabernets. Adam's wife Kathy manages the hospitality for the winery, and it is not uncommon for other family members to be working the tasting room counter and sharing stories of the Dry Creek Valley.
Sbragia Family Vineyards is located on a beautiful site at the top of the Dry Creek Valley with sweeping views from their terrace. Guests are invited to bring a picnic or purchase light deli items from the winery to enjoy the sunshine and vineyard views. The winery produces acclaimed wines all single vineyard designated in small lot production. Varieties produced include Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Zinfandel and Cabernet. Most of the wines are made from vineyards owned by the Sbragias, but do include select vineyards from Sonoma and Napa Valley as well. Please come and visit and enjoy a 2 for 1 tasting on us!
