With
September comes the crush. The Napa Valley grape harvest is possibly
one of the most popular event destinations in California. The term
Wine Country automatically invokes a vision of the Napa Valley
in all its glory. The wineries are in full swing as the crush reaches
its crescendo, their doors are open and all are encouraged to witness
this massive undertaking first hand.
In the town of Napa, the average temperature in September is 67 degrees, while the average high is 81 degrees and the average low temperature is 52 degrees. The average rainfall for September is 0.4 inches. Temperatures and rainfall in Yountville and Oakville, several miles north of Napa, would be roughly the same as in Napa.
In September, the average temperature in Calistoga is 68 degrees, the average high is 85, and the average low is 50 degrees. The average rainfall in Calistoga for September is 0.1 inches. These figures reflect a close approximation to those in St. Helena, just eight miles south of Calistoga.
If you are coming from outside California, you will probably be surprised to learn that September and October can often have periods where temperatures reach into the 90’s during the day. Indeed, these months are the warmest of the year in San Francisco, as the fog is usually brief giving a chance for the temperature to warm during the day. Besides dozens of vineyards and wineries great and small, Calistoga has a climate warm enough to sustain lushly fronded palm trees bringing to mind the temperate Mediterranean.
One perfect September destination is Chateau Montelena on the north end of Calistoga, This famous winery offers it's beautiful grounds, complete with gazebos, a garden and its very own Jade Lake. The towering stone winery, a castle really, is the stunning backdrop to this beautiful estate. This is just one of many wineries that are not to be missed during crush.
Whatever the weather, come on up! We’re waiting for you!
