Napa Valley Weather: Napa Valley October Weather
October in the Napa Valley is perhaps the most beautiful time of year. The vibrant colors of the changing grape vines are breathtaking. Visitors from around the world plan their vacations to coincide with the marvelous tapestry that adorns the Wine Country in autumn. All of your senses will be treated to the best the valley has to offer. The wineries, restaurants and spas all offer great packages to enable visitors to take full advantage of this magical time in the Napa Valley. Don’t miss the Wine Country harvest.
In the town of Napa, the average temperature in October is 62 degrees, while the average high is 76 degrees and the average low temperature is 48 degrees. The average rainfall for October is 1.7 inches. Temperatures and rainfall in Yountville and Oakville, several miles north of Napa, would be roughly the same as in Napa.
In October, the average temperature in Calistoga is 62 degrees, the average high is 77, and the average low is 46 degrees. The average rainfall in Calistoga for October is 2.1 inches. These figures reflect a close approximation to those in St. Helena, just eight miles south of Calistoga.
Don’t be surprised if you experience an Indian summer during your October visit to Napa Valley. While the average high temperatures have cooled down from those in August, we usually have a period of very warm weather sometime in October—with temperatures in the 80’s. Indeed, in October of 2012, the first few days of the months started out with temperatures in the high 90's. While these high temperatures are the exception, rather than the rule, you may experience some very warm weather in early October, but fortunately, the temperature will cool nicely in the night.
While rain is a possibility in October, there are often years when there is hardly any rain at all. In the 2009-2010, October seemed to be a bit rainier than usual, but it is anyone’s guess whether this will continue. My own view is that if you are planning a visit to the Napa Valley in October, you will be hard pressed to find a more perfect time to visit.
A great way to experience Napa Valley in October is with a leisurely bike tour. There are places to rent bicycles or bring your mountain bike. There are some great trails from novice to expert and you will not be disappointed with the rewards of spectacular views and great temperate weather. Pack a picnic lunch, a light jacket and your camera and plan to stop along the way and enjoy this spectacular season!
Whatever the weather, come on up! We’re waiting for you!
