March in the Napa Valley is a great time to visit. The promise of spring with the verdant green hills and the early blossoms shows the Wine Country visitor that the seasons here are mild and inviting. When venturing to the Napa Valley in March, bring clothing to layer, as the temperature is changeable.

In March, the average temperature in Calistoga is 54 degrees, with an average high of 67, and an average low of 41 degrees. The average rainfall in Calistoga for March is 5.7 inches. These figures reflect a close approximation to those in St. Helena, just eight miles south of Calistoga.

In March, temperatures may rise to near 80, and temperatures in the 70’s are not uncommon.  March is unpredictable with 2004 and 2005 seeing peaks of 89 degrees, while 2012 saw a low of 24 degrees! Indeed, on only three March 2005 days, did the high temperature fail to top 60 degrees. In the early part of March, 2012, the weather was also great, with temperatures pushing 70 the first weekend of March 2012

In early March, don’t miss the Napa Valley Marathon as it attracts runners from near and far. The course winds south from Calistoga down the Silverado Trail to Napa through one of the most beautiful grape growing regions in the world.
