The day culminates with a memorable dinner at Cole’s Chop
House in Napa. We begin with their sublime Oysters Rockefeller.
These bliss-inducing bites are full of creamy flavor that is rich
but not heavy. Our friends enjoy the rich, butter lobster bisque
crowned by puff pastry. My husband and I split their special salad
of green beans, arugula, sweet corn and blue cheese that is an
excellent transition from oysters to steak.
My husband and I order rib eyes, which are beautifully marbled
and perfectly cooked. Our friends order the filets and moan with
pleasure at the tenderness of their steaks. A baked potato arrives
with the classic accompaniments. The creamed spinach is rich and
velvety, while the hash browns are a perfectly golden cake of potato
and onion.
To accompany our decadent meal, we bring two wines from Titus Vineyards, a second-generation, family-owned, Napa Valley red wine producer. The waiter graciously decants both wines, and brings enough glassware to allow us to enjoy the wines side-by-side.
For dessert, our friends cannot resist the allure of the warm chocolate brownie sundae with caramel gelato. Tempted by the bananas foster, ultimately my husband and I split the fruit crisp. Delightfully content, we toast the end of this whirlwind tour of my world-famous neighborhood!
