How To Relax Without Really Trying: A Practical Guide For The First-Time Calistoga Spa Visitor
At first glance, a newcomer to Calistoga (or “Mud City” as it is sometimes called) may find the abundance of spas and different treatments daunting and, well, downright scary!
I have seen many a first-timer with that telltale look of fear that only a spa “virgin” can have. These terrified people are often the male counterparts of the couple with the “Honey, today we’re going to do something I want to do” syndrome.
He undoubtedly would rather hit the links or the tasting rooms. My advice to him and others like him; “Do not be afraid, they won’t hurt you! They will be gentle, they have done this before.” Use this as a mantra on the drive up and chances are he won’t bolt when you arrive at the spa. It’s worth a try.
Having said this, it should be noted that after all is said and done, treatments over and gratuities extended, he (the scaredy-cat) is the first one at the front desk booking for the next day. He is also the one giving advice to all the people in the lobby about what to book, who to ask for and how to do it. Another convert and a happy success story.
