Having chosen where and what you will do, the questions now are primarily “who” and “how long”.
1.
CHOICE OF THERAPIST: When you make your spa reservation, you will
probably be asked if you prefer a male or female massage therapist.
Your selection will be based purely on your individual preference.
Contrary to popular belief, many female therapists are just as
firm or even firmer than the male therapists and conversely, some
male therapist are just as gentle and nurturing as their female
counterparts. What you should always remember is to communicate
with your therapist while receiving a massage. If you want more
or less pressure, more shoulder work, less on the feet, etc., you
must tell them. They are all very skilled individuals but they
are, alas, not mind readers!
2. LENGTH OF MASSAGE: When choosing the length of massage, remember that a half-hour massage is never enough. You will have just started to relax and then it's time to take a shower. Start with an hour--you'll be glad you did.
3. GRATUITIES: Yes, gratuities are accepted and appreciated for spa attendants and massage therapists alike. If in doubt, ask the front desk regarding specific policies.
