Deep Tissue Massage at Golden Haven Spa

Golden Haven Hot Springs is pleased to offer our clients the option of a deep tissue massage. If you are not familiar with deep tissue massage, you should know that is a massage technique where the massage therapist applies pressure by using their fingers, knuckles and elbow on the deeper muscle layers to release tension while relaxing and soothing the muscles.

Deep Tissue Massage is often mistaken as a firm Swedish massage. However it is very different. Unlike the even, smooth and rhythmic strokes of the Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue focuses on certain areas in the body and may jump from one area to another not having a particular sequence or routine. Deep Tissue often does not or uses only very little oil or lotion.

Deep Tissue Massage includes a range of techniques that focus on the deeper layers of the muscles. The slower strokes used are deep finger pressure, knuckle’s and elbow’s often going across the fibers of the muscles, tendons and fascia. The purpose is to unstick the fibers of a muscle as well as the surrounding fascia and tendons. This process releases deeply held patterns of tension and removes toxins while relaxing and soothing the muscles. It is both corrective and therapeutic. It is not uncommon to feel some soreness during and after the treatments. It is recommended to drink lots of water after the massage.
